~Vaughan~
Fully dressed again, I grabbed Calistaâs jacket off the sink where Iâd put it down, inhaling her salted caramel scent as I did. Maybe I would need to wash it before I gave it back to her since it had spent the last half hour covering my cock? It frustrated me that the thought turned me on as much as it did, that touching her jacket had been the closest Iâd been to my fated mate.
Sheâd been close to admitting she felt something for me in the truck, I could have sworn. It had been rotten timing to get back to our land when we did, but if she felt nothing, she would have just said so. The fact that she fought me on it meant that she had something to hide, and based on the delicious scent coming from her in the enclosed space of her truck, I had a pretty good guess what that âsomethingâ might be: she felt the mate pull between us too, whether she wanted to or not.
Pulling the door open, I only took half a step before I had to stop to avoid a collision with my Gamma who stood outside the door waiting for me, his arms crossed.
âNot now, Leo.â My eyes were already on my office door, just over his shoulder, where Felix and Calista waited for me. Felix already told me what the results found, and Calista deserved to know too.
âVaughan, what is wrong with you? You canât keep ignoring your mate!â
My mate sat just beyond those doors behind him, waiting to find out the truths that had been hidden from her for her whole life. I had no intention of ignoring her, but I knew that wasnât what he meant. âI asked you to arrange my mating ceremony, not to give me relationship advice. I just had to kill one of our pack members! You donât think thatâs more important?â
Though he couldnât argue with me, my answer didnât satisfy him. âOf course you need to deal with it, but let her help you. Sheâs supposed to be your partner, and right now, she feels like a third wheel to you and this human woman, who I had to assure her I had never seen you with before.â
So, Amanda had some suspicions about Calista. It didnât surprise me, not with how smart and observant she seemed to be. Leo had a point that I would have to deal with Amanda before long, but at that moment, Calista remained my priority and every second I stood there talking to him kept me from her.
âLeo, I say this with all the patience I can muster right now: get the fuck out of my way.â
My Alpha authority bled through each word and my Gamma immediately stepped to the side, his head bowed in submission. I would have to apologize to him later; Iâd asked him to look after Amanda and he was simply trying to follow my orders, but I pushed him and Amanda
